Resumen
The population of the ancient world was communally informed in a deficient and inaccurate way, giving priority to ignorance of basic aspects of their health, leaving them vulnerable to historical epidemics that greatly decimated societies. The emergence of scientific journals and the subsequent arrival of medical publications allowed the community to access knowledge, especially useful in times of great health damage. The development towards the technological era provided the conditions to have in the palm of the hand the main tool for information, help and prevention against the pandemic of the COVID-19 disease: APPlications (APPs) available almost globally on phones mobiles. In the text, we describe the functions and characteristics of various official APPlications that the nations of South America developed in the face of COVID-19 and the different contact tracing methodologies that warn about possible exposures to sources of the disease. In addition, a retrospective look is given to the technological steps that made global interconnectivity possible; ending with the importance of new or restructured APPs that focus on a new stage of the disease: the post-pandemic era.
