Resumen

This article aims to study the regulations and, in particular, the canonical doctrine applied in the context of divorce and domestic violence proceedings between 1750 and 1845 in southern Peru. The specific focus is the analysis of the circulation and reception of the work of the Jesuit Thomas Sánchez, the most cited author in divorce cases due to cruelty in the Diocese of Arequipa. To this end, over 150 files of criminal and ecclesiastical cases from the period held in the Regional Archive of Arequipa (ARAr) and the Archbishop’s Archive of Arequipa (AAA) have been consulted.
