Resumen

Phyto-engineering is a discipline that focuses on the use of plants for the restoration and recovery of damaged or degraded ecosystems. This includes reforestation, the restoration of wetlands, and soil remediation. Phyto-engineering is a valuable tool that provides effective and sustainable solutions for ecosystem restoration and environmental protection by mimicking natural recovery processes using local plants that are resistant to local conditions. Plants play an important role in ecosystem restoration. They can protect and restore soil, control erosion, provide habitat for wildlife, and store carbon. In addition, plants can have a positive impact on the maintenance of biodiversity through the improvement of water and air quality. Plant engineering is an interdisciplinary discipline that integrates ecology, botany, geology, and hydrology to assess and solve environmental problems. The discipline also uses monitoring and evaluation techniques to determine restoration success and identify potential problems. The main benefits of phyto-engineering in restoring degraded environments and ecosystems are analyzed in this chapter. In addition, the most important cases of success after the application of phyto-engineering will be developed.
