Introduction: Recent studies have identified a reduction in the effectiveness of triple therapy for H. pylori eradication. In Peru, there is not enough evidence on the efficacy of this type of therapy. The objective was to identify the association between the type of therapy and the eradication of H. pylori. Materialsand methods:Analyticalretrospectivestudy in a private hospitalin Piura, Peru 2017. Information was collected from patient’s medical records with positive biopsy for H. pylori. The association between type of therapy received (triple standard, MOCA, and BOTF) and eradication of H. pylori infection was investigated. Also, the presence of comorbidity, endoscopic diagnosis before and after the received therapy, presence of metaplasia and dysplasia were explored. The Fisher Exact Test and a significance level of 5 % were used. Results: Of 80 patients, the majority was women (65 %) and the mean age was 52.4 years. 76.3 % received standard triple therapy and the majority obtained eradication of H. pylori (75 %). It is observed that the patients who received triple therapy had 62 % and 17.7 % higher frequency of eradication of H. pylori, compared to those who receivedBOTFandMOCAtherapy;respectively(82 % vs. 20 % vs. 64.3 %). An association was observed betweenthepresenceofmetaplasiaandtheeradication of H. pylori (89.3 % vs. 67.3 %). Conclusion: Most patients eradicated H. pylori, particularly with the use of standard triple therapy. The type of therapy implemented and the presence of metaplasia was associated with the eradication of the bacteria.
