Resumen
This research article attempts to study the phenomenon of obstetric violence as a form of gender-based violence by trying to identify those elements that would typify this practice in relation to its social and structural causes. To this end, the international normative and jurisprudential framework will be examined in order to identify international standards of reference conducive to preventing and eventually sanctioning such behavior. It is also suggested that the implementation of a human rights approach in attempting to prevent such misconduct has contributed to the invisibility and normalization of such a disvaluable practice. In order to address the issue of obstetric violence from a theoretical perspective, this article reviews the existing literature, using a qualitative sociolegal analysis through a review of norms and jurisprudence.
