Abstract

The main objective of this research study is to assess the effect of problem-based learning on developing mathematical skills in administrative and systems students at a private university in Chanchamayo (Peru). The methodology is quantitative, explanatory, and has a quasi-experimental design. The experimental group consists of administration and systems students and the control group is comprised of law students, both from first semester. Three instruments are designed to assess mathematical skills. The results in the post test show significant differences between both study groups: the control group did not have students at a good level while 25% of students in the experimental group reached this maximum level. In conclusion, problem-based learning significantly improves the development of mathematical skills in future administration and systems professionals.
