Abstract

The study of vehicle counting is of importance, since it directly affects the analysis of vehicular traffic for the development of efficient road infrastructures for users and at the same time for the control of vehicular traffic. This work presents the proposal of an automatic counter system based on videos, for which we used the Python programming language and libraries such as OpenCV for system programming, whose techniques consisted of registration, detection and finally the counting of vehicles. In the experimentation, we collected and processed data in different scenarios in the main roads of Huancayo, in order to evaluate the counting framework. Therefore, the proposed vehicle counting system is able to count efficiently at 95% in scenarios suitable for its application.
