Abstract

The footwear manufacturing industry in Peru is recovering from the economic crisis generated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Proof of this is the survival of companies with efficient inventory management, production plans, and product or service quality. The main objective of this research is to know the impact of Lean, SLP, and SW tools on the efficiency of a footwear handicraft workshop. The importance of the research is to provide a solution to the low efficiency of the workshops, mainly due to the poor distribution of the workstations that generated many unnecessary transfers and unproductive idle times that generated delays and waiting times. The proposed improvement model comprised the following tools: Systematic Distribution Planning, 5S, and Work Standardization. In addition, the Arena simulation tool was used to evaluate the results and validate the improvement proposal. As a result, 79% of the OTIF efficiency indicator was achieved, the effort was reduced by 40.6%, and cycle time by 2%.
