Abstract

Objective: To compare contraceptive preference according to the family planning counseling setting in women of reproductive age according to the Demographic and Family Health Survey-ENDES 2019. Methods: Observational, analytical, cross-sectional and retrospective, review of secondary sources with a sample of 32 160 women with complete registration and without gestation. Results: Of the total number of participants, 18.2 % used some contraceptive method, with modern contraceptive methods being the most used. Currently, 45.9 % do not use any contraceptive method and the most used method was the injectable method 13.1 % and the condom 11.2 %. The 10.4 % do not intend to use a method in the future, those methods with the highest preference for the future were injectables 28.4 %, pills 16.1 % and implants 14 %. Intramural and extramural orientation were associated with current and future use of contraceptive methods. There are differences in the type of contraceptive method used in each setting where the woman receives counseling. Conclusions: Mainly women prefer modern contraceptive methods and in low proportion those of long duration. In addition, extramural counseling had a significant difference in the current and future use of contraceptive methods with respect to the intramural setting.
