Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to analyze Peruvian participation in Ibero-American sports science journals in 2010 and 2018. Materials and methods: 26 journals indexed in the Scopus database were consulted and from these, 11372 articles of original type, review, letter to the editor and editorial were analyzed, in addition to being identified by institution and country. Results: 0.22% of publications show the participation of authors affiliated with Peruvian institutions (25 publications); of these, 36.4% were registered as first authors, 60% were letters to the editor, 80% were financed by the authors, 61.8% were published by men and 80% were published in Spanish. Of the total number of authors who published in these journals (42684), 0.1% were authors with a Peruvian institutional affiliation. There is an increase in publications in the period 2014-2018 and a preference for Spanish journals. Conclusion: Peruvian participation in Ibero-American sports science journals is low compared to other Latin American countries. The type of funding may be a limitation to the production of original articles and first authorship.
