Abstract
The purpose of this article was to analyze the importance of nationality in arbitration appointments, in specific, to understand if nationalism is above other more technical aspects of regulation. From eleven sports selected, 772 sport events have been analyzed during the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. The results have been compared with the sports regulations and with direct communications with international federations. It has been observed that despite focusing arbitration nationalism in the regulation in several ways, some of them are focused on specifics, others more general and some based on recommendations, all sports consider nationalism as the primary aspect when choosing referees.
