LineMaster: Trajectory Tracking Device with Sound and Light Feedback to Help Children with Dysgraphia

Research output: Chapter in Book/ReportConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

The project addresses dysgraphia, a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects the ability to write clearly and legibly, typically manifesting in childhood. Children with dysgraphia experience difficulties forming letters, organizing thoughts on paper, and writing at a speed and with fluency. This goes beyond lousy handwriting or a lack of practice; it represents a persistent challenge that affects academic performance and causes frustration in daily tasks, especially in educational contexts that require clear writing. LineMaster, developed using an Arduino Mega 2560, emerges as a technological solution designed to enhance handwriting skills while developing motor skills through interactive participation. The device focuses on reinforcing motor coordination and stroke control, serving as a learning companion that enables children to overcome difficulties through exercises tailored to their rhythm. The device features a screen that displays concise messages, minimizing unnecessary visual distractions and helping children focus on their tracking exercises. Integrating real-time corrections and instant feedback allows children to adjust their strokes immediately, encouraging continuous improvement and interactive learning. The system's adaptability to individual learning rates and the interface's ease of use have proven essential to maintaining engagement and motivation throughout the learning process.
