Abstract

This document explores the integration of Virtual Reality (VR) in engineering education, highlighting its potential to enhance graduate attributes attainment through innovative learning methods, while delving into the importance of STEM knowledge and developing essential skills for future engineers. The proposal advocates for a project-oriented approach where students work on Capstone Projects. These projects require collaboration and mobilization of resources, allowing students to apply their technical knowledge in real-world contexts while developing a range of specific skills categorized into technical (hard skills) and interpersonal (soft skills). The results are not conclusive regarding competencies attainment; however, preliminary findings are promising to concern the use of VR in Capstone Projects. In the blended learning modality, competency attainment rose by 1.0% to 13.0%. In contrast, in the face-to-face modality, the improvement ranged from 1.3% to 19.8%. More experiments are needed with a large number of students to evaluate its impact on learning experiences
