Abstract
Scaffolding selection for construction projects is crucial due to its impacts on safety, productivity, cost, and project schedule. Despite its importance, construction professionals select scaffolding based on their experience without using structured decision-making methods. Thus, decision-making methods are still scarce and focused on mathematical methods, which have limitations in being replicated in other decisions. This study provides the following steps to fill this gap: (i) a literature review of decision-making methods for scaffolding selection, (ii) then the scaffolding selection process is performed for a hospital project in Peru using Choosing by Advantages (CBA) and (iii) interviews are conducted with decision participants on the implementation of CBA and barriers to the implementation of CBA in the decision are identified. The main results show that CBA helps to make more transparent and collaborative decisions in scaffolding selection. The following article will help construction professionals make transparent and structured decisions for scaffolding selection.
