Abstract
In this chapter, we present a study about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on suicidal ideation in a Peruvian sample. The design was cross-sectional and comparative. We worked with one group before and another during the pandemic. The instrument used was the Positive and Negative Suicidal Ideation Inventory (PANSI). Robust tests showed, on the one hand, that the group studied during the pandemic presented a greater presence of negative suicidal ideation (Ty = 4.68, p < .001; d = .32; 95% CI = .21, .42); and, on the other hand, that the differences in the groups were not centered on the low and medium values, but on the high values (PCC = 68.18%; c-value < .001). Regarding the positive suicidal ideation factor (i.e., hope, self-efficacy, happiness), no differences were found between the two groups. Finally, we suggested that short-term interventions should focus their attention on negative suicidal ideation.
