Educational Software for Learning Load Profile in Residential Supplies

Research output: Chapter in Book/ReportConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

This paper presents the results of the development and implementation of an educational program in Matlab® for students enrolled in the course Introduction to Electrical Engineering and related areas. The principal objective of the program is to enable students to recognize the significance of their role as electrical engineers in the context of sustainable societal development, through the interpretation of the load profile of any residential supply, which is a crucial aspect of energy efficiency and resource management. To achieve this objective, the software generates graphical representations of the instantaneous power and daily electrical energy demand of a residential property. The methodology employed entails an exhaustive record of the installed power in the house, obtained through an inventory of all electrical appliances in operation, with consideration given to their specific active power. Furthermore, a comprehensive record of the frequency of daily appliance usage is maintained, segmented into 30-minute intervals. The results of the analysis demonstrate that the utilization of the Perfilcargafv software markedly enhances the students' capacity to analyze and interpret the load profile, thereby facilitating their theoretical and practical comprehension of the subject matter and enabling them to discern energy efficiency strategies. In conclusion, the educational software developed has the dual benefit of improving the learning process in the field of electrical engineering and fostering awareness of the importance of energy efficiency and sustainable development among future professionals in the sector.
