Design of an Active Orthosis for the Rehabilitation of Elderly Adults with Gonarthrosis

Abstract

The present research project aims to design an active orthosis for elderly adults with gonarthrosis for rehabilitation. A project was carried out in stages according to VDI 2206 and IDEF 0 methodologies to achieve this objective. The results obtained from the research project are divided into the mechanical design, made in Autodesk Inventor, and the electronic design, made in TinkerCAD. Each of these designs took into account the requirements from the kinematic analysis and the physical measurement of the selected patient. It is concluded from the designs that the elaborated orthosis is suitable for use during the rehabilitation of patients with gonarthrosis since the simulations had satisfactory results according to the design parameters.
