Abstract
Introduction: To determine the association between severe depression and dissatisfaction with the thesis process in health sciences students in Ayacucho-Peru. Methodology: Analytical cross-sectional study, using surveys of 82 graduates of 3 health sciences careers in the central Peruvian highlands. Twenty-eight difficulties experienced in the thesis process were questioned, then this was compared to the anxiety, depression, and stress they had (measured with the DASS-21 test); statistical data of association was obtained. Results: In the bivariate analysis, the students who had higher scores of dissatisfactions with the thesis process had a higher frequency of severe depression (cPR: 4.23; 95% CI: 1.91-9.33; p value <0.001), severe anxiety (cPR: 2.71; 95%CI: 1.06-7.09; p-value=0.038) and severe stress (cPR: 2.34; 95%CI: 1.38-3.97; p-value =0.002). In the multivariate analysis, the students who had higher scores of dissatisfactions with the thesis process had a higher frequency of severe depression, both in the model that adjusted for socio-educational variables (aPR: 4.08: 95%CI: 1, 47-11.31; value p=0.007), such as the one that only had the variables of the mental sphere (aPR: 3.96; 95%CI: 1.49-10.55; value p=0.006).
