Surgeon specialist in Thorax and Cardiovascular Surgery from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos with international internships in Heart Transplantation and Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami, Florida, and in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery in Colombia; and receiving a master's degree in Medicine from the University of San Martín de Porres. He completed the Diploma in Principles and Practice of Clinical Research from the Harvard University School of Public Health. He was awarded a scholarship by the American Association for Thoracic Surgery and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. He was President of the Peruvian Student Medical Scientific Society (SOCIMEP); and Founder and first Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Medical Students (IJMS).
